What is veneer tape?
Product Description. Veneer tape is used to join two pieces of veneer and keep the seam tight while the adhesive cures. The beauty of this water-activated veneer joint tape is that it shrinks as it dries. It is this shrinking action that pulls the veneers together and makes a well-cut joint almost invisible.
How do you attach veneer tape?
Applying Intersecting Veneer Tape
- Cut a longer than needed strip.
- Square up your starting end and butt it tightly to the pre-installed veneer edge tape.
- Heat and press the tape into the joint.
- Heat and roll your tape until you get approximately 3 to 4 inches from the end.
- Do not heat these last few inches yet.
How do you apply PSA backed veneer?
- Figure 1: Lightly hand sand all surfaces of cabinet.
- Figure 2: Apply PSA backed wood veneer to exposed end panels.
- Figure 3: Smooth panel by applying pressure to veneer scraper along the grain.
- Figure 4: Carefully trim away excess wood veneer.
Is PSA veneer good?
PSA is often a good choice for cabinet refacing, speaker building, and much more. Keep in mind that PSA veneers have a very robust adhesive layer so the veneer can not be repositioned once it’s set in place.

How do you wet veneer tape?
Wait until the panel is completely dry to avoid the risk of smearing the glue from the veneer tape onto and into the veneer. A better method is to lightly re-moisten the tape with a sponge, let it soak in for about 45 seconds, and then peel it off of the panel.
How do you stick veneer to wood?
The 3 most common ways to glue wood veneers down are:
- Use veneers that come with a self stick, 3M peel and stick adhesive.
- Use 2 coats of contact cement on both surfaces.
- Use woodworker’s glue, such as Titebond 2, and apply pressure with clamps.
How do you remove adhesive from a PSA?
Pour a small amount of an acetone-containing solvent on a clean cotton cloth. Place the cloth over the pressure-sensitive adhesive and allow it to sit against it for five minutes. Rub the adhesive off of the surface with the acetone-dampened cloth.

This material is mainly stocked in 10mil PSA (about 1/64″ thick) and ships by UPS. A makeshift stiff scraper is recommended for scraping the veneer surface thoroughly after binding. Paper-Backed PSA may have bleed through or bubbling problems after applied.
